Assembly is very easy however that's the only nice thing. I only had this on top of my Jeep for 2 months before it started to rust at it's assembly points. The rust then leaked ontop of my jeep creating havoc on my paint. Will not recommend this unit. Spend the extra money and get something nicer.

Pro: Fairly inexpensive. Cons: Not packaged well for shipping. Even though the box was received intact, the rack was bent in two places, and had a broken weld as well. It was shipped in two halves loosely in the box, without so much as a sheet of paper between them. Due to movement inside the box during shipping, the pieces scraped the paint off each other in several places, which will quickly rust without touch-up. One nut was missing. Maybe it would be good to buy in a store without the rough handling inherent to shipping.

The price is pretty good and the build of the rack is well made (but will very small crack in paint if you look very carefully.)
I think the size they advertised on their package is wrong. I measured it a couple times it's more like 37.5"x47" then the 51" they advertised. I think it is not a problem from Amazon but a problem from the manufacture side. It's written 37.5x51 all over the package box but the rack itself after assembled it's 4" short. Despite the dimension error I am very happy with the rack.

When I first went to assemble the two pieces to make a whole basket, the tubes going from one piece (male) into the other (female) did not fit. Further investigation showed that the tubing on the female side was bent (not from shipping), and to make it work, I had to spend about 1/2 hour re-opening the tubes.
After finally putting the basket together, it came time to mount it on the roof of my 2008 Highlander. Keep in mind, before I bought this rack I contacted the company to inqire whether or not it would fit my car. I was told that yes, it had universal fittings so it would fit all car roof racks.
Well it did have universal fittings, but they were so simplistic that I had to spend 1 1/2 days, and trips back and forth to hardware stores, to make it work. The reason, even when the clamps were tightened as tight as they would go, the rack slid back and forth and would not tighten firmly.
To make it work (and I never did get it "tight"), I had to use a metal cutting saw to cut parts of it away, put jerryrigged blocks between the basket and the crossbar, and tape it tightly to the crossbar.
These problems would have been more acceptable if I had paid half as much. I can live with the imperfections in the tubes (since at this price I didn't expect the quality of a Thule or a Yakima), but to have to spend the time and money to make this product safe to travel on my roof at up to 80 miles per hour, is unaccepable.
The only way I would recommend this product to anyone is if Lund puts a truly universal clamping system with it that is uncomplicated and easy to understand. Otherwise, be prepared to use extraordinary measures to safely attach it to your roof.

Only used once so far: Good thick material, zipper seems strong. It leaked a tiny bit in a very heavy downpour. All in all, very good bag for the price - especially if you only have side rails and no cross bars on your roof rack.

Have used this both with a crossbar (Thule) roof rack and without a roof rack. Works fine both ways. There's some wind noise even if you tie all of the straps down. I use cable ties (zip ties) to get rid of the slack straps on the roof.

I bought this for a 1000 mile trip through wyoming and colorado on a Pontiac Vibe. I don't have cross bars for my rack, so I secured this with an additional cam strap as suggested by other reviews. It didn't budge despite going 80 mph for much of the trip. My fuel economy went from 29 mpg to 25 with the bag full. When it was less full on our way back our mileage was at 28. We passed through 100 miles of moderate rain, and the inside of the bag was definitely damp, but this was expected based on other reviews.
I love the cargo flexibility that this bag gives me, and it folds up small enough that I can tuck it away in one of the weird hidden compartments in my car.

The Lund product, while at a good price, did not perform well at all. The Lund unit does not have sufficient strength and durability in critical areas such as seams, zipper, and zipper over-lap construction. If you need to know that your gear will be protected, you are better off trying a unit made by CarLoc (purchased at Dick's Sporting Goods), or purchasing a higher-end product such as Thule.
DETAILS: Ordered 2 of the Lund Roof Bags for a summer trip from CT to SC. We used 1 for the trip down and had an extra in case we needed it. After the first use, the front corner ripped adjacent to the zipper. The zipper also opened at the closed end, causing the entire zipper run to open, which basically renders the whole unit unsecured.
The unit was only subject to some (summer) rain. It malfunctioned, causing our luggage to get wet. Based on this poor performance, we dared not utilize the second unit, and opted instead to purchase another manufacturer's roof pack (CargoLoc),at actual less cost, while on vacation. The CargoLoc was a better quality unit and worked without any problems.

I shopped around and almost bought a hard case. I'm glad i didn't. This bag has attached padding to protect your roof, does not need additional rack to attach (can have side rails or no rails), and has been water tight on several 4 hour rainstorm rides on the highway. I would stop loking and buy one of these.
