My fat cat got broken in the highway 70, ruined all the skiis and boards with it last year after using it about 4 months. I liked the design and look on my 4runner but it's not durable to highway speeds with 25 mpg gust winds...

C'mon Yakima--$200 for this rack? Should be half that price for what you get. I'd give it 5 stars if the price was closer to $100. But only 3 because it's not. If price is no object you'll probably be satisfied on all levels. It's heavy duty and seemingly durable. No louder than Yakima racks are without a wind deflector (which is moderately loud). Holds fat skis with a two tier hinge system that expands for tall loads. Has a cool height extension feature for low mount OEM racks. It would really look cool in brushed aluminum like Thule but instead it's a fairly ugly grey. Looks like glossy primer--another strike against it.
They're a pain to attach to your rack but that's the inherit security of the mounts. The biggest bonus is probably that they can mount to virtually any rack and include 2 sizes of high quality bolts for this purpose. The worst feature is the lack of locks. I bought locks because I'd hate to have someone thieve this expensive investment.

We needed a rack that was wide enough for 4 snowboards. This carrier is longer than the average 4 board carrier leaving more room between the boards so that they don't cut up the other board's high backs.
hinges on this rack are spring loaded to self adjust to the thickness of the items being carried. The rack is a lot quieter than our old one a Yakima promo rack.

great for transporting skis, poles and boards. drove up east coast hitting several ski slopes in a week without any problems. easier than attaching bike racks that for sure.

I owned the Yakima Big Powderhound racks before these and they created a bit of wind noise at speed. The Fatcat 6 has the same capacity and no noise!! They also look pretty cool on my vehicle.
